Paranormal groups serve the public by hosting events that explore the paranormal.
We all know that, right?
But little do paranormal groups know of content marketing.
Don’t get me wrong: there are some paranormal groups that don’t need content marketing. They are able to draw a steady clientèle without advertising. These are the exception.
For the majority, your business relies on customers. Now, before you go spewing the “non-profit” malarkey, remember that even non-profits have to make money to survive. In fact, if you don’t have a money making attitude, you’re not going to win in this game, no matter how hard you want to investigate for the better of the public.
Anyway, you need content marketing.
What is content marketing?
Content marketing is simply content that does not directly promote your brand, but creates interest around your investigations. Instead of saying “LOOK AT MY INVEST!”, you say “here is a piece of content related to the paranormal that I think you’ll enjoy”. If your content is engaging enough, prospects will check you out. To be honest, they can tell by your name what you’re all about, so there’s no need to promote anything, but your name.
Why should you care about content marketing?
It builds your brand. With the ever-increasing number of groups appearing, your brand is vital. You need to stand out as THE paranormal group to do investigations with. This is where content marketing can help.
Think about it. Who do you go to when you need something? The expert. How do you prove your expertise? You share knowledge. So, if you share your knowledge on the paranormal FOR FREE, people are going to come to you when they want an investigation.
What is even better about content marketing is that you can raise your prices. You’re deemed as an expert now. People pay more for expert advice and experience. And you can justify your higher prices because of the expertise they are receiving. Even if you’re a non-profit, that means more money for your cause!
How do you do content marketing?
Content marketing includes video, blog posts, social media posts and more. Anything that is deemed content comes under this.
The key to content marketing is VALUE. If you’re not providing value to the audience, you are wasting their time and losing relationships.
If you record or take pictures or capture audio throughout your investigations, this is going to be your main content. By the gods and goddesses, share it! I have a friend on FB who badgers on about paranormal teams not sharing their finds and he is right. This industry is based on results. If you’re not finding anything, you’re not really any good. Prove your worth to the audience by sharing your finds. They’ll love to be part of the process.
Another way to do content marketing is to do start a blog. There are a lot of controversial views in the paranormal sphere. The use of mediums and ouija boards is a start. By sharing your views and reasoning on these topics, you are sharing your expertise. People may agree or disagree, but you’ll get them talking about YOU. The more they talk about you, the more exposure you’ll have, the more customers you’ll have. Winner!
Also, something for when you have a bit more money: stream your investigations live on Facebook and YouTube. This is a growing trend and trust me, it is going to explode. Imagine it as running your own TV show. Heck, if you’re good enough, you’ll be the next Most Haunted. Just better.
Hopefully, I’ve been able to convince you to take content marketing seriously. It can make the difference between success and not.
